ABOUT THIS PROJECT
"The World Around Us": My series of picture books delve into the fascinating intricacies of the world we live in. From the incredible life cycle of ants to the mesmerizing process of ball-making, car assembly, the magic of x-rays, and the mysteries of our galaxy – each book is a window to a different facet of the world's wonders. With engaging storytelling and captivating illustrations, we aim to make learning an unforgettable experience for children aged 3 to 8.
THE BACKGROUND
Why this series?
I'm a proud grandmother who cherishes the time spent nurturing my two incredible grandchildren, both blessed with insatiable curiosity. In our journey together, we've encountered a challenge that we're determined to overcome: the scarcity of educational books that align with today's dynamic learning landscape. It seems that most children's books are woven from the fabric of imagination and fairy tales, leaving factual knowledge in the shadows.
Education has evolved, embracing a more hands-on, practical, and tactile approach to teaching. Yet, in our quest to align with this modern educational paradigm, we've struggled to find books on the market or within libraries that seamlessly integrate with this new approach. Faced with this predicament, I embarked on a mission to create our very own educational books designed to captivate our grandchildren and ignite their curiosity about the world around them, all while infusing the same magic and wonder found in traditional fairy tales.
"Allen the Ant" has already made a remarkable impact. My granddaughter, at just 36 months old, now observes and understands ants with a heightened sense of curiosity and fascination. And that's not all; her curiosity extends to the cosmos as well, as she delves into the realms of planets and space, becoming her most passionate interest.
But we're not content with just enriching the lives of our own grandchildren. We're on a mission to share these extraordinary learning experiences with children everywhere, to inspire them to explore, discover, and dream. That's why I'm turning to you, our incredible community, to support our initiative and help us create more educational wonders that will leave lasting impressions on young minds.

Meet the creator
- Hi, I am Rhona Coetsee, the author of The World Around Us Series, and this is my story. As a mother of a child with ADHD and homeschooling my children, I recognized the importance of meaningful literary options. As a grandmother, I continue to observe the scarcity of books that impart valuable life lessons to small children.
- Drawing from my firsthand knowledge, I understand the value of interactive teaching methods in a child's development. God inspired and equipped me to write and illustrate the “In The World Around Us Series”.
- In these books, children not only learn to read, write, and expand their vocabulary but also develop cognitive and fine motor skills, encourage problem-solving, and enhance their scientific thinking.
THE PLAN
- With your contribution, we can print 300 copies of each of Allen the Ant, Bella Ball & Carl the Car for distribution.
- We will also be able to host our website for online sales.
- We have a local printer that will print the books and have already printed a sample. The cost to print 300 books will be R15 000.00. The printing costs for the 3 books will be R45 000. We will use the balance for creating and hosting a website and distribution and administration costs.
Social Responsibility campaign
The Bushmen community in Botswana faces significant marginalization, with high levels of unemployment and limited opportunities for their children's future. In order to make a positive impact on their lives, we have partnered with this community to launch a special initiative. As part of this campaign, we aim to provide a meaningful and educational gift to 150 children under the age of 8: a book for Christmas.
But that's not all. In collaboration with Big Step Publishers, we have designed a unique reward system for donors. For every donation of R1000 or more, Big Step Publishers will generously contribute one book to a child in the Xanagas Boarding school. And for every additional R250 beyond R1000, we will donate an extra book. This way, your contribution not only helps the Bushmen community directly but also extends the gift of knowledge to other deserving children.

OUR GOALS
- End October 2023 - Launch Jumpstarter Campaign.
- The campaign will run for 30 days.
- Funds will be received in the first week of December 2023.
- Books will be printed between the 10th and 15th of December 2023.
- Signed copies will be available for delivery by courier (SA only) by 20 December 2023 to enable backers to receive them before Christmas.

Risks and challenges
Delays in printing, shipping, or other unforeseen hurdles can disappoint our backers and damage our reputation. We do have contingency plans in place and will communicate openly with our backers if any delays occur.

Answer: If our crowdfunding campaign is successful, we aim to have the book ready for distribution in about January 2024, from the end of the campaign, allowing time for finalizing production and printing. We will keep our backers updated on the progress every step of the way.
Question 9: Can I get a sneak peek of the illustrations? Answer: Absolutely! We will periodically share sneak peeks of our beautiful illustrations and updates on the campaign page and our social media channels to keep our backers excited and engaged.
