Why Babisa?

Our vision is not only to take South African made products to the realm of eCommerce but also to bring the South African community to our online market.

Our mission is to create a sustainable business where not only our stakeholders benefit, but where we unite the South African community via Social Media providing them access to quality South African products.

Our Multi-Vendor Online Market and Services are designed for all levels of vendors, from the skilled to not so skilled.

But most of all, we are providing the less fortunate vendor with no access to such markets the ability to sell their products to a bigger market.

UBUNTU PROJECT

Photo used for illustration purpose only "These are the type of products that we are going to sell on platform"

Informal vendors sell their crafted products to a market where all odds are stacked against them, to them it’s also a matter of survival.

They don’t have access to a huge client base and neither do they have the means to expand.

At BABISA we are in the process of rapidly changing this, giving informal vendors the opportunity to sell their handcrafted products online.

Not only will our team setup a store for these vendors we will also carry stock, and handle the shipping to potential buyers.

Depending on the amount of individual products each vendor has our goal is to sign-up roughly 100 informal vendors with this scheme.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Once our scouts or community identifies a possible vendor we will visit their shop, should the products meet a certain standard of quality and requirements, we will come to an agreement.

  • Price on a selection of his / her products will be negotiated
  • We will outright purchase stock which will be kept at our warehouse
  • As the stock gets depleted we will purchase more stock
  • Our intention is to do more than just help a specific vendor with selling their goods, we will furthermore
  • Offer help setting up a bank account
  • Should product demand for higher production we intend to help  source funding to help vendor setup a small factory in order to meet supply

COMMUNITY PROJECTS!

We strive to help local communities setup small scale projects may it be to earn a wage, or help them feed the hungry or themselves. This creates the opportunity where access produce and products can be sold forward to customers, markets, restaurants and local shops.

These products and produce also provide BABISA with the raw material for our branded products.

Branded Products

In 1984 my now deceased father started a small business in Darling, Western Cape, called “Weskus Bokkom Biltong” The simple idea of bringing this delicacy to the South African market turned into a well-established concern, which had a television program produced about the whole small scale fishing industry in the West coast, but most importantly it provided jobs, not only in the little factory but across the whole value chain right down to the fisherman. The business closed its doors due to various reasons.

The reason for telling you this story, it does not matter how small the venture every single small business provides employment, puts food on family tables.

Every single one of our products tells a story, every single one of our products provides employment to the whole value chain, no matter how small the venture.

Our mission is to create small to medium sustainable businesses, which can cater for a large market providing financial stability to all stakeholders

THE ULTIMATE BRAND!

No brand can exist or survive without customers, the world wide web is no different, no online platform or business can survive without web traffic.

All online platforms rely on paid advertising to attract traffic to their potential customers, may it be Facebook, YouTube, Google or many other social media paid advertising.

This would be no different in establishing the BABISA brand.

BUT WHAT IF ??

BABISA can provide our potential customer and our community with value-added platforms creating not only the buy-in around the Brand but also the desired traffic

Project FAQ

Who are we?

  • I am Barend van der Westhuizen, after a very successful start to my career in the Banking Industry, I opted to venture on my own. What started off as a highly profitable Bond Originating company became The Property Shoppe, where we did more than just helping customers with bond finance.
  • The business model consisted of an Estate Agency, Building and Renovating, Interior designing and Property Development, not only was this a huge success but led to the building of our own rental property, consisting of 33 flats in the Wellington area. Various projects including the renovation and interior design.
  • After the property slump in 2008, my career took a turn and a focus on a totally different industry.
  • I was offered an opportunity as Area Sales Representative at Bell Equipment in Port Elizabeth, in 2018 on of my customers made me an and moved back to Western Cape, as Marketing Manager at African Biomass Company.
  • In short, I have always thought of myself is someone to find solutions for problems, may it be in Finance, property or fixing a marketing problem, and I am good at it.
  • I have always had this dream of a business that is not only sustainable but creates opportunities across the whole value chain and what would be better if it could add value to communities by doing so.
  • This is my vision for BABISA, It’s not a long shot or pie in the sky, it’s a carefully thought out business plan, a concept with multiple income streams, but most importantly is going to add value to 1000’s of people’s lives it is truly “Born and Bred in South Africa”

Where are we based?

  • St Helena Bay, Western Cape

Why Crowdfunding?

  • This project is more than just creating a sustainable and successful business, it’s about giving back, helping people, to be more, to earn a living and be proud of been “Born and bred in South Africa”
  • The more people we can get involved the better the project will do, I sincerely believe the “crowd” funding a project like this, not only have it in their hearts to support truly something amazing but would feel they are involved in making a huge difference.

What is the plan once 100% funding is received? / How will we spend the funds we raise?

  • We would like to raise R300 000-00 of which 90% will be spent directly on Community and Ubuntu Projects
  • Should our bid for funding be successful and we manage to raise the funds as requested the allocation of these funds will be as follows;
  • UBUNTU PROJECT – R85 000-00
    • Purchasing between R2 000-00 to R5 000-00 worth of stock from approved informal vendors will mean we can support roughly 25 vendors monthly for the interim. As the stock gets sold, we will buy more stock from them until each vendor has a monthly income of roughly R10 000-00 once we achieved this target, we will expand to the UBUNTU project our goal is to support 100 informal vendors in total.
  • COMMUNITY PROJECTS:
  • THE MORONGWA COMMUNITY – R75 000-00
    • This community is based in Limpopo, my partner has been working with them for past few months helping them setup a safari business on the farm they own, in order to create a sustainable and profitable business, we are in the process of helping them establish some infrastructure funds will be used for equipment as needed.
  • BEANIES BY LOUISE – R10 000-00
    • A group of women in the St Helena Bay community knitting beanies and scarves which are sold and 50% of profit are donated to charity.
    • The group is in urgent need of some equipment and raw material (Beanies will be sold on our Multi-Vendor Platform)
  • ST HELENA BAY FISHMONGERS R70 000-00
    • The small fishing community in the Cove community in St Helena Bay is fighting a daily battle for survival, employment is scarce.
    • We are in the process of setting up a small Fish and dried fish facility and at the same time reviving a business packaging dried fish “Fish Biltong”.
    • We have negotiated terms with a few outlets, and potential buyers to purchase their produce direct from this facility.
  • ST HELENA BAY FISHING COMMUNITY
  • ONLINE SECONDHAND BOOKSHOP – R40 000-00
    • “Charity Bookshop”
    • This project is a joint venture between The Coffee Republic in Wellington, Sunfield Home in Wellington, and Eiland Huis in St Helena Bay.
    • We have been running a campaign asking Facebook Friends, Family, and Friends to donate all their unwanted books to the cause, in order to stock this shop.
    • 70% of all profits generated from the sale of books will equally be split between the two charities.
  • FINAL SETUP COST BABISA ONLINE PLATFORM - R8 000-00
    • Although BABISA platforms are more than 90% completed we do however need to acquire extra premium plugins the finalize some of the features.
  • ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN – R12 000-00
