Our Story

In the vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa, four individuals from diverse backgrounds found their paths converging at Puzzlcat Software.

Thulani, an education veteran with over 15 years of experience, brought his passion for empowering learners and his expertise in curriculum development. Thomas, a creative force with a Bachelor's in Game Development and Game Design, joined the team as a web developer, eager to make a difference in the digital world. Emanuel, a skilled software engineer who had honed his craft at companies like takealot.com and Citiq Prepaid, brought his experience in building robust web and mobile applications. Frank, a computer science graduate with a knack for problem-solving, had already made his mark in the industry through his work at Wumdrop and PODIt Self Storage.

Together, these four individuals formed the core of Puzzlcat Software, a company that initially focused on web and app development. However, their shared vision of leveraging technology to make people's lives easier soon led them to transition into a SaaS business. With Thulani's educational expertise, Thomas's marketing prowess, Emanuel's technical skills, and Frank's entrepreneurial spirit, they created Jotgenie, an AI-powered tool that simplifies audio recording summaries.

Project FAQ

  • I've always been fascinated by technology and its potential to solve problems and make people's lives easier. My journey into the world of software started when I enrolled in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program at Stellenbosch University in 2012. However, I soon realized that my true passion lay in software development, so I made the switch to Computer Science the following year.
  • After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2016, I joined Wumdrop as a Software Developer. For over three years, I was responsible for maintaining and upgrading the frontend and backend services of their website. It was an exciting time, as I got to work on a variety of projects and hone my skills in web development.
  • In 2017, while still working at Wumdrop, I took on a part-time role as a Technical Lead at PODIt Self Storage. I created their website from scratch, handling both client-side and admin-side functionality. This project allowed me to sharpen my skills in Python, project management, and stakeholder communication.
  • The entrepreneurial bug bit me in 2022, and I co-founded Puzzlcat, a software development company focused on creating AI-powered productivity tools. We started off as a contract dev house but soon transitioned into a SaaS company. Our flagship product, Jotgenie, helps users summarize audio recordings with ease.

  • My journey in education has been a dynamic and fulfilling one, spanning over 15 years and encompassing a diverse range of roles that have allowed me to make a meaningful impact on the lives of learners and the educational landscape as a whole. From my early days as an Administrator and Teacher at the Science Education Resources Initiative (SERI) to my roles as Project Coordinator, Organisational Manager, and Manager at various educational institutions, I have honed my skills in communication, social development, strategic leadership, community engagement, and project management.
  • I have successfully orchestrated impactful initiatives, such as the Fun'ulwazi Enrichment Programme, acquired and oversaw significant budget projects, and contributed to outstanding academic success through innovative strategies and engaging teaching methods.
  • Throughout my career, I have continuously invested in my own education and professional development, earning an Advanced Diploma in Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of the Western Cape. I have also held positions as a Curriculum Development Officer at Curro Holdings Ltd., where I enhanced teaching methodologies and developed accredited curriculum material, and currently serve as the Head of Sales and Business Development at Puzzlcat Software, driving user growth and positioning the company as a proactive player in the educational landscape.
  • With my passion for education and extensive experience, I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact and empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators.

  • My first job was at Shinka Technologies in Cape Town. For over a year, I honed my web development and SQL skills, collaborating on projects for the company's clients. Eager for a new challenge, I then joined the e-commerce giant takealot.com as a Software Engineer.
  • At takealot, I worked on a range of technologies like the Pyramid web framework, Bootstrap, and React to build and maintain APIs and services. My goal was always to enhance the user experience for the millions of shoppers on the site. After a year and a half, I moved to a startup called ikhodi.tech, where I led the development of an e-commerce platform using Django, Handlebars, and Bootstrap.
  • In late 2019, I joined the talented team at Citiq Prepaid. Over nearly three years there, I grew tremendously as I designed and built features across web, mobile, and backend projects. Highlights included an Angular web app and admin tool, a React Native tenant app, and Python Falcon microservices.
  • Recently, I've been working as a freelance developer for MetaSolves, updating their internal tools from PHP to modern frameworks. I also co-founded my own company, Puzzlcat, which began as a web and app development shop and is now transitioning into a SaaS business.

  • After completing my Diploma in Animation in 2017 and a Bachelor's in Game Development and Game Design at Vega in 2021, I knew I wanted to make a difference in the digital world.
  • My journey led me to Puzzlcat Software, where I started as a web developer. For two years, I immersed myself in design work, SEO, and digital marketing. It was an incredible opportunity to hone my skills and learn from a talented team. In September 2022, I took on a new challenge as the Marketing Director at Puzzlcat Software.
  • My goal is to make people's lives a bit easier by leveraging innovative technology.
  • Throughout my career, I've developed expertise in web design, Unity, and various other skills. I enjoy sharing insights and engaging with my network. I'm excited to see where this journey takes me as I continue to grow and make a positive impact in the world of technology and marketing.
