ABOUT THIS PROJECT
I wanted to solve my own problem as a parent of primary school children, so I decided to make an app for it, because I believe many other parents have the same problem.
The problem I am referring to is this: I don’t know if my child is ready for the exam and wether she has gone through all the topics. I don’t know how to help her do better because I don’t know where she struggles and need more attention or practice. When I download premade exam papers it’s not exactly right and I have to mark it without a memo.
And so the idea of CrackaJack is born: an mobile app that lets you pick topics from a list, creates an CAPS aligned assessment that is on the right level of difficulty, instantly gives feedback to the parent on which topics of the subject is the child struggling with. It’s fun and gamified to encourage the child to use and enjoy it. It features Jack the Hornbill, your friendly study buddy, that motivates and reminds the child of when tests is coming up (you can schedule tests in the calendar feature) and give rewards to the child when he/she achieves new learning goals.
Parents and children’s accounts are linked so that parents can assit their children and they are in the loop of how their children’s exam prep is progressing. It uses specialized AI to generate the tests, which is a first in SA.
It will include subjects: Mathematics, Social Sciences: History and geography, Natural Science, Afrikaans Huis Taal, English Home Language and Afr and Eng First additional language. All subjects wil be available in Afrikaans and English as they receive their education in school.
It is an purely South African Application developed for South African children.
TRACTION
We are in a late stage of development now and have a prototype ready for testing. We aim to launch at the end of August 2025 if everything goes according to plan. We have social media pages that is ready for marketing the app. Our skilled app developers are training our on AI bot to produce accurate and relevant questions for test generation.
THE BACKGROUND
We are so close to the finish line with this amazing project but we ran out of money for the last bit. With you assistance we can give wings to Jack who will be able to help countless South African children achieve better marks in the exams, have more confidence and stress less about exam preparation. Together we can make a difference in many children’s lives, helping them to brighter futures.
THE PLAN
Our plan is to launch approximately by end of August 2025 so that the app is ready to help children prepare for the third term assessments. And if you help to make it happen you will be one of the first to use an test the novel South African app.

Project FAQ
Who am I?
- My name is Corli Opperman and I am mom of 3 and a entrepreneur, graphic designer, farmer, cook, baker and adventurer. I love creating beautiful things wether it is on my computer or on paper or in nature with sticks and stones.
- I have 25 years experience in graphic design and have my own freelance business. I designed and animated Jack the Hornbill myself and the whole idea of the Crackajack app is my own idea that have driven myself.
- My husband had stage 4 cancer and we used the life insurance claim money to fund the development up until now. He has conquered the cancer and we are very grateful that he is healthy and cancer free now!
Where are we based?
- We live in the heart of Hartbeespoort, just 35 km west of Pretoria
Why Crowdfunding?
- Since most banks or businesses loan companies require that you are already doing business and earning revenue, we cannot apply for funding with them, since we have not launched the app yet and are not earning anything yet.
- I believe people will want to be a part of Crackajacks first flight; they can then have bragging rights to have helped such a novel and innovative application come to life - and after all: the eraly bird catches the worm!
What is the plan once 100% funding is received?
- All the money received will go straight toward the development company to finish the app
- The Backers will be added to a mailing list and they will be notified when the app is ready for testing and when launched, they will receive a discount code when they subscribe to Crackajack.
